Interview
Series with Prominent Bioenergetic Practitioners:
John Yong
This telephone interview between Dr. Robert Glazer and John Yong is the second in a series of interviews with bioenergetic practitioners.
In addition to being a practicing attorney in New York City , John Yong is on the Board of Directors of The Alexander Lowen Foundation and has led bioenergetic workshops in North and South America. His expertise is in leading bioenergetic groups by utilizing a unique way of integrating group members energetically into the bioenergetic process while an individual is receiving a session. In this interview, John describes some of his experiences with Dr. Lowen, Dr. Hladky, and Bioenergetic Analysis. John talks about meeting "(his) mentor, (his) surrogate father" Dr. Hladky, and his first bioenergetic session with Frank:
"he held me like you would hold a child and I just cried...I had never before in my life felt that kind of release... as I was driving home I had to pull over many times just to cry, because the vibrations were just moving through me."
In answering questions posed by Dr. Robert Glazer, John describes what makes bioenergetic therapy different from other therapies:
In "a lot of talk therapy, you can talk yourself out of the body issues. But the body does not lie. ...we can't cheat the body. The mind can cheat other minds, but the body can never cheat."
John Yong also describes a session during the workshop led by himself and Dr. Glazer that weekend, including how a participants breathing pattern was therapeutically changed using the principles of Dr. Alexander Lowen.
